The IRATA Rope Access courses, levels one through three, have been accredited by the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association.

With this course, you will focus on the skills for the certification necessary for an entry-level (level one), intermediate (level two), and/or advanced (level three) role in the Rope Access industry.

There are three levels of the IRATA Rope Access Course to choose from. With each of these, PSI Global Training and its dedicated partners can help you progress to the next level in your career. There are several courses available regularly, with each training course lasting five days. If you’re interested in booking, please try to book in advance if possible as these courses sell out quickly.

In addition to taking each course, we can also organise revalidation and refresher courses. This will allow you to gain the IRATA accredited certification, proving you still hold the skills relevant to your level.

Prerequisites

  • Delegates must bring their IRATA Logbook after completing course levels 1, 2, or 3. This is to demonstrate you have logged enough working hours to sit the course.

About the course

Course Content

IRATA Level One

The first level is designed for delegates who have not gained any experience in this field. Training and examination requirements will be taught to be qualified as an IRATA Level 1 Technician. A Level 1 technician can perform a limited range of Rope Access tasks. As a Level 1 Technician, you will work under the supervision of a Level 3.

The course includes the basic principles of movement on ropes. For example, ascent, descent, and changing from ascent to descent. You will also learn how to switch from rope to rope, crossing a knot, aid climbing, and traversing. Also included are passing re-anchors, deviations, using a backup system, learning elementary rigging, and rope management.

IRATA Level Two

The IRATA Level 2 course is for professionals who have an in-date Level 1 IRATA certificate. Delegates will also need to have over 1000 hours of Rope Access work logged and must produce evidence of this through their IRATA Logbook.

Level 2 is for Lead Technicians and will cover rigging working lines, undertaking rescues, and performing other rope access tasks under the supervision of a Level 3. You will need to have a knowledge of legislation, safety requirements, and quality assurance procedures.

The IRATA Rope Access Level 2 is the intermediate qualification and is a stepping stone towards receiving your IRATA Level 3 certificate.

IRATA Level Three

The IRATA Level 3 course is designed for candidates who have a valid Level 2 IRATA certificate. Delegates must take this course to progress to a Level 3 technician and will need to have over 1000 logged hours of Rope Access work. You must provide proof of this in your IRATA Logbook.

This course covers site supervision for Rope Access work projects and relevant work techniques. It also reviews legislation, advanced rescue techniques, and will provide a comprehensive level of detail.

Delegates of this course must also hold an appropriate current first-aid certificate. This is to show that suitable emergency first-aid training has been undertaken. Taking this course means you will have knowledge of IRATA Training, Assessment, and Certification. You must also be familiar with the contents of the IRATA ICOP.
